Tell me the truth....

Does my head make my ears look fat?

This sweet puppy's name is Lady.  She probably has more personality than any other dog we have photographed.  She is tiny, so small she could fit on Roy's open palm, and she is very happy and very playful.  She was in a kennel by herself and that made her look even tinier.  As we walk down the corridor between the rows of kennels, the dogs bark so loudly we can hardly hear each other talk, and they jump up and down, and climb up their fence trying to get to us.  She just stood there by her door, quietly looking up at us and wagging her tail.  She had no idea what any of this was all about, but she knew she wanted out where the people were!

As fun as it is to photograph puppies, I usually resist because we have only so much time and I like to help the bigger, older dogs get some recognition.  Puppies adopt easily.  Bigger dogs need a little more help.  So the first time we walked through, we resisted Lady's big, brown eyes and wagging tail.  But Roy went out later to get one last dog to photograph, and came back with this one.  She got to him!  He even asked (in way too serious of a tone) if we could take her home.  She really is a charmer!

Her tail was wagging so hard as Roy was playing with her that she kept turning her head trying to figure out what was going on back there!  She was so playful---jumping, licking, rolling over, carrying toys around, chasing Roy's hand, trying to crawl up his arm to get on his chest and lick his face.  She is a sweetheart!

Roy was holding her, talking to her as I was changing something on my camera and I heard him say, "You have no idea, do you?  You have no idea how bad it can be out there.  I sure hope you never have to find out."

Yeah, we almost brought her home.

But we didn't, and she is still waiting to bring pure joy into someone's life and home.  Check her out here
                                          http://www.facebook.com/SabineHumaneSociety
and then call and make an appointment to meet her.  No strings attached.  Take her for a walk outside, let her get some fresh air and exercise,  and spend a little time with her.

And don't bother mentioning that her ears might be a little big for her body.  She really couldn't care less.

And We Lived Happily Ever After

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into each kennel. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card, I hoped she wouldn't feel bad about my past.  I only have the future to look forward to and I so want to make a difference in someone's life.

She knelt down and talked softly to me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to connect with her, hoping to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; I saw a tear run down her face and I could tell that she needed companionship, too.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I promised to keep her safe.
I promised to always be by her side.
I promised to do everything I could to see her smile.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved.
I am so happy I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Animals Make Us Better People

How could they NOT make us better people?
Look at that face!

Apparently it is true...animals really do make us better people.

According to the Pet Health Council, a five year study of 600 children from 3-18 years of age showed that those raised with a pet in the house have overall better life coping skills than those who don't live with a pet.  This was shown to be especially true in children who have difficulty learning and in children whose parents are divorced.

Researchers also found that children living with pets have overall higher levels of self-esteem, and function much better emotionally than those who do not have a pet in the home.

Important life lessons are learned by children who have a pet, such as developing responsible behavior to take care of their  pet, as well as developing a respect for all living things.

Don't miss out!  There are many beautiful, loving, healthy animals housed at your local Humane Society shelter that need a forever home.  They can't wait to meet you!

So what are you waiting for?  Become a better person today!
And save a life at the same time.  Contact your local Humane Society.

Note:  Indy, the beautiful Boston Terrier above, was adopted a couple of days after our photo session.  She is such a sweetheart and so deserved a forever home.  But there are many more amazing animals waiting...to see some of their photos, go to the link above.

Looking for Love?

Hello,

Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Mississippi.  I am as unique and individual and strong and beautiful as my name.  If I do say so myself.

Okay, here's the deal:  I want need a Forever Home, and a Forever Family (one person or a houseful) that I can love and take care of.  If you need someone to take care of business around your place, I am your man dog.  You will wonder how you ever made it without me.

If you need someone to escort you to a fancy affair, I am the one dog you are looking for.  Loyal, handsome, well-mannered, eager to please, sensitive-but-strong, house-broken, and not afraid of commitment. In fact, a lifelong committed relationship is exactly what I am hoping to find.

If you need someone to hang out with, have fun with, exercise with, go fishing with, play frisbee with, chew on bones with, read with, share your pizza with, I am that friend dog.  I love to run and play or just chill and sit at your feet.  It won't matter what we are doing, as long as we do it together.

If you are looking for protection, I am your security guard dog.  I will never, ever, ever stop protecting you and looking out for you.  That will be my lifelong mission.  That's just the kind of guy dog I am.

If I am what you might be looking for, have your agent call my agent.  Let's take a nice long walk together, maybe do lunch,  and see if we might be compatible.  I have a good feeling about this.

Until we meet,
Mississippi

P.S:  You should know that I only know one way to love, and that is with my whole heart.
And as long as I am alive and can find you, you will never be alone in this world.
